Wray – Hypatia
(Independent)

Wray are a shoegaze trio from Birmingham, Alabama. On their debut album, they establish themselves as purveyors in warm, delicate rock songs that feel like being tucked into a blanket of the sun’s warm, glowing radiance. Wray’s sunny approach to shoegaze is a much appreciated change of pace in a scene enshrouded in a grey scale haze of gloom and depression. Instead, Wray’s repetitious use bright guitar chords and pulsating, hypnotic drum grooves set an atmosphere for leisure and relaxation; a short but effective get-a-way from the chaos we’ve all endured this past year. This record is the perfect summertime album. Go to the beach, lie down, sunbathe and melt into the sand.

I like evil riffs and pretty chords.
