Yith – dread
Yith was the last new record I listened to in 2016, which is unfortunate because it came out in September. If I had spent more time listening to this album it’d place much higher on my list. Yith is a one-man project, and has crafted one of the finest fusions of black metal and doom that I’ve ever heard. Each composition is a lesson in sorrow, with Yith seamlessly combining morose and at times malicious black metal with the mournful trudge of doom. But this album isn’t all sad vibes, tracks like “time and loss” and “dread” end in triumphant fashions, cementing Yith’s place at the top of the black/doom genre. This year Hellthrash Records will be doing a CD pressing and Vendetta Records a vinyl pressing, so hopefully this album reaches more ears this year than it did last!
