Top 25 of 2016: #25 Necromantic Worship – The Calling…

Necromantic Worship – The Calling…
(Nuclear War Now! Productions)

While it would be right to think of the name Necromantic Worship as a nod to the Greek black metal band Necromantia, I think the band’s name is more personal than that. While the band existed very briefly, from 2015-2016, they released two demo tapes, Spirit of the Entrance Unto Death and The Calling… and they both rule. Much like Necromantia, Necromantic Worship incorporate bass guitar as the feature, with guitar being used sparsely, mainly for solos. The songs feature chilling keyboards and the meatiest bass riffs you’ll hear all year. At its most climatic moments, The Calling… feels like an occult ritual taking place to conjure ancient evils. While the band was short lived, it should be known  that frontman, Ghûllzaraën, is quitting music to focus on the occult.

I like evil riffs and pretty chords.
